Treating an individual with antipsychotic medications may relieve the psychotic symptoms but does not treat the underlying process. However, psychosis sometimes compounds severe depression, and may be noted in various neurological conditions including acute metabolic and toxic states, head injury, M.S., delirium, dementias, and CNS infections or neoplasm. For many people, the disorder most often associated with psychosis is schizophrenia. This may take various forms including delusions, severe confusion, hallucinations, or sever impairment in judgment or ability to reason. ![]() The hallmark of psychosis is considered by many as loss of contact with reality. Psychosis, per se, is not a psychiatric illness, rather it is a symptom associated with a wide range of disorders. ![]()
